TOYS ON THE FLOOR

Motherhood is always having toys on the floor. At least during the waking hours in our home. Yesterday Kennedy pulled out some of her old puzzles, ones she hasn't played with in... years (is that even possible for a four year old?)

All the sudden she was using her shape puzzles to create houses, barns, and aquariums for all of the animal puzzle pieces. I loved hearing her descriptions of each building... "mom this is where the porch is" or "here is the swimming pool."

It's imagination, and creating, and I love being able to get a glimpse of it.

We also got to name all the animals today when they all came to visit me.

Someday there might not be toys on the floor for every waking hour anymore, but right now I am embracing the bright colors that are scattered across the living room and realizing that for Kennedy they are more than just toys on the floor, they are her world, her imagination manifested in physical form. She is a creator. And I think that is just beautiful.

24 WEEKS | BABY 2

How far along: 24 Weeks!

Baby size: 11.8 in & 1.3 lb - the size of a large zucchini!

Maternity clothes: My husband got me a dwell and slumber dress for my birthday and it is so comfortable and probably my favorite new maternity wear I have had this time around.

Stretch marks: No, I think I have entered another phase of stretching though, hopefully it will be better for a little bit.

Sleep: Sometimes I can sleep through the night, sometimes I am up for hours in the middle of the night. Wish I could be more consistent.

Gender: A sweet little girl!

Best moment this week: Just imagining what this little girl will be like, how Kennedy will be with her, what life will be like.

Looking forward to: Sweet summertime. I keep thinking about how we will all be able to go outside when this little one is born and just enjoy the second half of summer as a family of 4!

What I miss: Walking normally. Rolling over normally. Bending down normally. Pretty much any movement normally. But I know it will get more interesting before it gets back to normal.

Movement: YES! A lot of strong kicks and wiggles, I love being able to feel them!

Food cravings: Popcorn has been a yummy treat. And if an apple a day keeps the doctor away what about 2-3 apples a day. I love them!

Aversions: No strong aversions right now, although I do enjoy keeping things simple these days.

Nursery: I went through all of Kennedy's newborn-4T clothes this past week. I had them stored in various places and they weren't too well organized, so I knew I needed to go through them all. I washed them and folded them and organized them, and it was a huge project. I wondered if I was jumping the gun and just anxious to get started with stuff like that even though we still have quite a bit of time left, but I was so glad I got it done. It took a lot of time and energy, but it was also so fun reminiscing about every outfit!

Overall: I'm feeling pretty good. I definitely feel like I am bigger this time around than I was with Kennedy and it feels like I should be closer to the end of pregnancy than I am, but it's all good. I'm sure time will just keep moving along and before we know it, this baby will be an active addition to our family.

Miscellaneous: Kennedy loves chatting with baby and asking baby all sorts of things. It makes me happy to know the baby's ears are developed now and can hear us. My favorite things are when Kennedy came to my belly and said " Hi, my name is Kennedy." Or when she sings primary songs to the baby. And about every meal she asks the baby if she likes what we ate. I love it.

TO REMEMBER

A few weeks ago we picked Kennedy up from her primary class and she was so excited to tell us all about what she had learned. She said they talked about how they could be a light to the world, and that she decided she could be a light by sharing her dolls with the baby. She showed us her drawing and was just so happy about it.

It was such a sweet moment, one of those motherhood moments I never want to forget.

22 WEEKS | BABY 2

How far along: 22 Weeks!

Baby size: 10.9 in. 15.2 oz the size of a papaya (but hopefully not the huge papaya I had for breakfast this morning...)

Maternity clothes: I'm pretty much set for the colder months with long sleeves, but now that spring is right around the corner we will see if I need anything else as it starts to warm up.

Stretch marks: Nope, my skin is actually feeling pretty good right now.

Sleep: This last week has been horrible for sleep. I was so so excited to find out the gender of our baby I hardly slept that night, then we spent the weekend in Boise with lots of late nights. It's all worth it though.

Gender: It's a GIRL! We are thrilled.

Best moment this week: Finding out the gender. It was just one of those days where life continued normally for everyone else, but for us we were celebrating the excitement of knowing this baby is a little girl and sharing it with others.

Looking forward to: Spring. We got a taste of it this weekend and it felt so good. I can't wait for the sunshine and the walks outside. I can't wait to plant our garden and get food from the farmers market. It's so exciting!

What I miss: Being able to roll over in bed in a normal way. Or just getting up from laying down or sitting in a normal manner. My abdominal muscles are pretty weak so I have to use my arms and it is awkward and uncomfortable.

Movement: Yes I love it. My mom got to feel the baby move this week. It's pretty pronounced at times now and it brings me so much joy.

Food cravings: Since it was my birthday and we celebrated knowing the babies gender plus we were out of town this weekend, we have been eating out a lot. My body is craving very simple, light meals right now.

Aversions: I had Indian food this week, and a few really garlicky meals while eating out, plus some Mexican things and it was all super spicy. I think my body needs a break from really spicy meals right now, even though they were all delicious.

Nursery: It's a girl. Which means we already have almost everything we need for this little one. I'm so excited to get down Kennedy's baby stuff and go through it. I'm also really excited to get a few new things.

Overall: It has been such a great week. It's been exciting and there have been so many fun things going on for us. I think finding out the gender, my birthday, and the weekend getaway were just what we needed.

Miscellaneous: My dad coaches high school boys basketball and his team made it to state this year. Not only did they make it but they won the championship. While watching all the games baby girl was kicking in my belly, Kennedy was cheering on my lap, and Daniel was cheering right alongside me. Plus being with my mom and brother and watching them cheer, and seeing my dad win. I felt over and over again just how blessed I am with the people surrounding me, with my family. I feel so blessed.
