15 Weeks

How far along: 15 Weeks!
Baby size: 4.5 inches long, 2-3 oz (about the size of a navel orange)
Weight gain: Definitely getting back to where I started.
Maternity clothes: Not yet, but I definitely lounge around in pj's when I a just at home.
Stretch marks: No but my stomach was "out of control" this week. It was really dry so lotion at night has really helped.
Sleep: Some nights are better. I wake up to change positions and my dang cough is trouble but it is a small victory when I get a full night of sleep!
Gender: Sometimes I really think it will be a boy.
Best moment this week: Getting one week closer to meeting this little guy or gal! Also I got really excited about the nursery so I spent a lot of time looking at pinterest for ideas and inspiration. We also went to Babies R Us to look around which was lots of fun. And we made our first baby purchase (Tommy Tippee Bottles).
Looking forward to: The next doctors appointment and scheduling our gender ultrasound. I really can hardly wait!
What I miss: Not having a cough and being able to breath. I really miss it. Not sure if it is pregnancy related though.
Movement: Not yet but I still can feel myself pop out when I lay down.
Food cravings: Nothing out of the ordinary. Maybe fruit snacks, yum!
Aversions: I probably need to try veggies again, I have been a little afraid since the first tri. Also popcorn sounds gross since last time I tried it I had rubber tasting burps.
Nursery: Lots of ideas. I have spent a lot of time looking for inspiration in this category this week. I found a crib I like and have kind of been looking at color combinations. I can't wait to find out if it is a boy or a girl because then I can make some decisions.
Miscellaneous: We continued to spread the news this week. It is nice to talk about it or just let people know. Spring in Pittsburgh is starting to make an appearance and I am excited about that. Hopefully that means walks in the park with my husband and a little more fresh air and exercise for me and this little one.

14 Weeks

How far along: 14 Weeks!
Baby size: 3 inches long, 1.5 oz (about the size of a lemon)
Maternity clothes: Nope
Sleep: Sleep is so so important. I will never take it for granted again! I have been sleeping a lot better, although I wake up in the night and need to switch sides more often than I ever remember doing pre-pregnacy.
Gender: I would say 60% of the time I lean towards thinking it is a boy and 30% of the time girl and the other 10% I just have no idea.
Best moment this week: Finally letting the news spill to the rest of the family (mostly). It is just nice for people to know that way no one feels bad that they didn't find out if anyone spills the beans. I also really love feeling my tiny baby bump. Sometimes it protrudes more, like early in the morning when I wake up. It is a crazy feeling but I love it and hope someday it will stick around :)
Looking forward to: I am really looking forward to finding out the gender of our sweet thing. It still won't be for a month (or longer) but I am getting a little anxious. I feel like I am kind of at a planning standstill since we don't know the gender. I guess I will be looking forward to this for a while still.
What I miss: Feeling good overall. I feel like there is always a little something happening in my body that is pregnancy related. Whether it is feeling just tired, or weak, or just some small annoyance, I am kind of missing the overall feeling of wholeness.
Movement: No but my little baby belly bump (whatever it is) comes and goes. It especially comes around when I am laying down or on my side. I love it.
Food cravings: Peanut Butter Banana Smoothies  I have had one for breakfast for the past couple of days and they are oh so good.
Aversions: My aversions are not so strong. I still don't really have any desire for fresh veggies, sweet potatoes, or fish. Overall food is sounding better these days and I am eating more HOORAY!
Nursery: No idea. Let's see if we can even find a two bedroom apartment or house that is relatively cheap and in a safe place and perfect for our needs. Then we will look into a nursery.
Miscellaneous: It is hard to believe we are out of the first trimester! I felt like this day would never never come. I am so thankful for time just moving along. Sometimes I feel like it is going to be FOREVER before we meet this little one but sometimes it is hard to believe we have known for over two months now about its arrival. 26 weeks still kind of seems like forever but it doesn't seem like that long ago that we still had 36 weeks. Hopefully life will continue to keep us busy up until the arrival of our bundle of joy.

13 Weeks

How far along: 13 Weeks!
Baby size: 3 inches long (about the size of a peach)
Weight gain: Not yet, probably soon.
Maternity clothes: No
Sleep: I have been sleeping a bit better. My cough still keeps me up sometimes but I have had a few night now that I have slept all the way through. Sleeping is a blessing. I have also figured out if I sleep in a lot I am a lot more exhausted than if I get up and get going. It is still hard not to sleep in.
Gender: Still thinking it is a boy. Daniel's father had an impression it was a girl. Either way will be lots of fun.
Best moment this week: Hearing our little babes heartbeat. It was a perfect 150 beats per minute this week! And calling to tell the siblings about our pregnancy. We wrote a letter to Stephen, we will wait and see what his reaction is. We called Brandon and Megan and Jord and Liz and they are both really excited for us. We still haven't reached Summer and Alex but hopefully by Sunday we will have told the important people.
Looking forward to: Letting the grandparents know. Especially Grandma and Grandpa Hart, I think they will be especially happy (at least I hope so :)
What I miss: Not having to take prenatal vitamins on an empty stomach.
Movement: Nope but sometimes this week I have felt like I have popped out a bit, then I get up and go to the bathroom and it is gone. I hope that is normal.
Food cravings: Pineapple. We got a fresh one from Costco this week and it was delicious!
Aversions: Sweet potatoes and veggies.
Nursery: We've been looking at cribs and things but it is still all up in the air.
Miscellaneous: It is kind of fun to hear the kinds of questions people ask. The funniest question this week was Liz asking whether Daniel and I would be celebrating mothers day and fathers day this year. Some things like that we have never thought of. Other than that our appointment was good, sharing the news has been fun, and looking at baby stuff makes everything feel a little more real.

12 Weeks

How far along: 12 Weeks!
Baby size: 2.5 inches, .5 oz (about the size of a large plum)
Weight gain: Not yet.
Maternity clothes: Nope
Sleep: I have had a hard time sleeping because of a bad cough I have had. I wake up around 4 or 5 a.m. every morning and cough for an hour. I have not however had a hard time sleeping in really late when I get back to sleep or taking extended naps. Exhaustion has been tough this first little while.
Gender: We don't officially know and might not know for a month or two but I think we both think it will be a boy. We will be absolutely thrilled either way.
Best moment this week: Reaching the safer zone of pregnancy and feeling like this is getting more and more real.
Looking forward to: Telling our siblings, grandparents, and close friends/family. We are planning on telling them after our appointment on Tuesday so throughout the week we should be sharing the good news.
What I miss: Having energy, waking up at earlier hours in the day, not feeling weak/ like I need two naps each day, and eating anything and everything (I definitely have some aversions).
Movement: I don't know when this will start happening, I read that the baby is already doing flips but I can't feel a thing, I look forward to when I can though!
Food cravings: I crave pizza a lot, or at least it always sounds good. Hamburgers and fruit are also always good.
Aversions: Sweet potatoes are like a swear word in our house along with a lot of other veggies. Having too many sweets also makes me not feel so good, a little goes a long way.
Nursery: I guess we will figure that out when we find a new apartment and the gender of our baby. We are still not sure if we will stick with a one bedroom apartment or move up to two. If it's a boy I am thinking blues and a nautical theme, or elephants, or whales, or a clock theme. If it is a girl I am kind of thinking rose garden with lots of cream colors and light brown and a touch of rose pink and light green. Who knows if these ideas will stick or come to pass at this stage of our life.
Miscellaneous: Daniel and I talk baby and baby names all the time. It is pretty fun to think of our little one. We both got books from the library this week about parenting in other countries from the perspective of one mother. Daniel read about the Tiger mom (Chinese-American) and I am reading about an American women raising her children in France. It has been fascinating
Some of the current favorite names for each gender are:
Boy: Wesley Garff Barrick, Branson Royal Barrick, Caden McLean Barrick, Carson McLean Barrick
Girl: Emerson Grace Barrick, Blakely (Ingalls, Hazel) Barrick, Kennedy Joanne Barrick, Brinley Hazel Barrick
We can't quite agree on a number one but at least we have a few ideas floating around. We will see if these last.

Turning 23

Seriously turning 23 felt like I actually got older. I feel like I am really solidly into my twenties now. I had a great birthday despite having felt under the weather with a bad cough for two going on three weeks. My birthday was great. I slept in while Daniel went to class and by the time he got back I was up and going. Daniel made me some Belgian waffles and we tried a few different flavors. Daniel had them plain and stuffed with chocolate orange. I had cookie butter with raspberries, nutella with raspberries and raspberries and cream. It was a really tasty treat. After lunch we watched The Incredibles. It was funny and relaxing. I took a quick nap while Daniel cleaned up our kitchen and made dinner and cake for us. We had tasty enchiladas. We watched the final episode of Downton Abbey, one of my favorite T.V. series. We started the Vanilla Ice Cream and called the parents. I opened presents, we ate the cake and ice cream, and took a few family phone calls. Overall the day was exactly what I wanted, a relaxing day with Daniel. Now my 23rd year is going to be great, with a baby on the way I couldn't be happier about what will be in store this next year.
